Massa: Saturday puncture ruined race
Felipe Massa believes his Brazilian Grand Prix weekend was severely compromised by a qualifying puncture that robbed him of a set of soft Pirelli tyres for the race. After qualifying seventh for his home race, Massa's Ferrari crew discovered the puncture on Saturday night, meaning that he would not have enough sets of soft rubber to make a three-stop strategy work in the optimum way. As a result, Ferrari switched him to a two-stop strategy, which the Brazilian acknowledged was not the quickest way to complete the race

Renault says driver decision imminent
Renault will make a decision on its 2012 driver line-up within the next fortnight, team principal Eric Boullier said in Brazil on Saturday. With the outfit evaluating several options for next year now that it is confirmed Robert Kubica will not be ready to start the campaign, the final call will be made at an imminent meeting of the Enstone-based team's board. Report: More details on three-row Volkswagen Tiguan for U.S.

When Volkswagen opened its new Chattanooga factory, there were lots of questions about what else it was going to build there, since Passat volume wouldn't come close to soaking up the facility's 150,000-unit capacity. A three-row crossover was often mentioned as another model, with Automobile reporting that a possible 180,000-unit expansion could lead to Porsche, Audi and VW CUVs being built there.
Now Car and Driver reports that a three-row Honda Pilot and Ford Explorer fighter will be built, and it will "almost definitely" be assembled in Tennessee or Mexico. It might use the Passat's platform, the rumored engine is VW's 3.6-liter V6, and its MSRP is expected to strongly challenge those of its competitors (in the manner of the Jetta and Passat's newly competitive price strategies).
The same report claims that VW is working on a Tiguan more suited to American tastes, which probably means turning it into something more like a Jetta crossover than a Golf CUV. Last year, there were several reports that Volkswagen was considering moving both Golf and Tiguan production to North America, and a Stateside-leaning Tiguan might mean now is the right time to do so.

Horner wants FOTA progress on RRA
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has urged fellow Formula 1 bosses to be 'open minded' in a crunch meeting about the future of the sport's Resource Restriction Agreement, which takes place in Brazil on Friday. The Formula One Teams' Association is due to meet in downtown Sao Paulo to discuss the RRA, with disagreements about its scope and implementation having yet to be resolved. The issue has become so important that there have been concerns that if no deal is reached on RRA then it could threaten the future of FOTA itself.

Garmin has pushed out an update to its StreetPilot app for iOS, and the available traffic information just got a lot more detailed.
The free update includes live weather and forecasts, but if you shell out for an additional $9.99 in-app purchase you get access to 10,000 live traffic cameras. The traffic cam functionality works in both the U.S. and Canada and makes a nice addition to the live traffic already included in the app. And you can create a list of favorite cameras in your area to check known trouble spots before you leave.

Official: Lexus IS F Circuit Club Sport Package comes into focus

Lexus has turned its already fast IS F over to the go-fast guys at Toyota Racing Development. The finished product is the IS F Circuit Club Sport, and the sport sedan wears a wide range of aero and mechanical improvements. We've known this model was coming for some time thanks to a 2010 Tokyo Auto Salon concept and details spouted late this summer, but these photos provide our best look yet at this touring-car-like model.
Outside, engineers have fitted the IS F with a new front spoiler, rear diffuser and hood, all of which are fabricated from weight-saving carbon fiber. You may have also noticed the vehicle's sizable rear wing. A performance damper kit is also part of the package, offering buyers two separate settings that independently adjustable compression. The luxury bruiser also comes equipped with lightweight forged aluminum wheels, though magnesium rollers are also available.
Mechanically, the IS F Circuit Club Sport Package utilizes a TRD limited-slip differential as well as a TRD big brake kit. At this point, there's no word on how much the package will cost or when it will be available. We aren't even sure American buyers will be able to sink their teeth into the factory-bred racer, so stay tuned.

Report: San Pedro, CA suffers massive slide, takes road with it
City officials in San Pedro, California, have long had their eye on a section of bluff-top road in the area. Constant erosion had threatened to walk away with the asphalt altogether, and that's exactly what happened during a storm on Sunday, November 20. A massive section of the Paseo del Mar roadway vanished down the bluff, leaving road crews to ponder on how to go about repairing problem. The city first discovered cracks in the road surface last spring, though the extent of the storm's damage was something of a surprise.
For now, the city is urging residents to stay away from the road until a solution can be found. The Los Angeles Police department has stepped up patrols in the area to keep would-be sight-seers away from the unstable road. Some area activists have accused rampant bluff-top development for accelerated erosion, though the slide could simply be nature at work.

AEM lets you hook up your car to a dyno at home with Dyno-Shaft

Unless you happen to own a dyno, accurately keeping track of which modifications benefit your vehicle may be a seat-of-the-pants operation. AEM is hoping to change that for people who are serious about wringing the absolute most out of their vehicle with the unfortunately-named Dyno-Shaft.
While the product may sound like a bizarre fetish film, it has the potential to revolutionize tuning for those of us who don't have access to high-dollar engine evaluation equipment. The Dyno-Shaft uses grade-strain gauges to measure horsepower and torque at transmission output shaft, so AEM maintains that the system's readings aren't impacted by variables that typically skew accelerometer readings.
AEM says that the the data broadcast device for the system is non-contact, doesn't use slip rings and needs no batteries, all of which are good things. Buyers simply install the supplied slip-yoke as well as a drive-shaft speed sensor and get going. Data is transmitted via a CAN-bus communications network to a data logger or an AEM engine management system. Prices start at $1,160.96 for cast-iron slip yolk applications, and AEM says that each Dyno-Shaft is specifically calibrated for your application. Chrome moly yolks are also available for higher-horsepower applications. We desperately want to play with one of these to see how accurate it is compared to a traditional full dyno setup.

Have you been waiting for the new BMW 3 Series to come around? Well the wait is over. The sixth generation of the quintessential sport sedan is upon us, and now we've got the pricing to go with it.
BMW of North America has placed the base MSRP for the four-cylinder 328i at $35,795, and the six-cylinder 335i at $43,295 - inclusive of destination charges(*). While these prices represent a $320 and $370 respective increase over the models they replace, BMW is adamant that the jump is worth it.
Not only has the 3 Series sedan been substantially redesigned, it also packs a higher level of equipment. That includes cabin gadgets like a 6.5-inch dashboard display screen for the iDrive system, as well as Bluetooth, USB and iPod connectivity, but also the latest enviro-tech like regenerative braking and stop/start engine management.
