Valsecchi fastest as GP2 test starts
Former GP2 Asia champion Davide Valsecchi topped the opening GP2 test of the year at Jerez today. Over the winter the Italian moved from the former AirAsia (now Caterham) squad to the DAMS team that took Romain Grosjean to the 2011 crown. Valsecchi set a 1m26.014s lap in the morning session, which stood as the best of the day.

Kobayashi plays down Sauber?s pace
Kamui Kobayashi warned not to pay too much attention to his timesheet-topping performance in Barcelona testing on Friday - but believes Sauber looks capable of achieving consistent points finishes and has made strides with its reliability. The Japanese driver set the fastest time of the Catalunya testing week yesterday morning with a lap in 1m22.312s. "It's testing, it's better than nothing and it's better than last, for sure, but I don't think this is a real result," he said.

We love SEMA. There's simply no better place to see the aftermarket go wild. Unfortunately, most of the cars, trucks, vans and other heathens that occupy the Las Vegas Convention Center each November are built to do little more than look pretty under the lights. We've always wanted to see the best of the best throw down on a track.
Fortunately for us, there's the Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational. For four years now, the battery maker has invited the cream of the SEMA crop to show off just what all that aftermarket hardware is good for.
This year, SPEED tagged along to see what all the fuss was about, and brought along a host of HD cameras to capture the whole event. Hosted by Bill Goldberg, the show is a good chance to catch up on some of the more impressive cars that debuted at SEMA 2011 and watch them as they do battle for the top title.
Who won out this year? We won't spoil it for you. You'll just have to look for the Optima Ultimate Street Invitational on SPEED. The show debuted this weekend, but will re-air on March 11 at 2:30 PM EST. In the meantime, check out the teaser after the jump.

Video: Obama reelection campaign launches auto bailout commercial

The 2008 economic collapse in the U.S. led to what many experts call the worst recession since the Great Depression. Among the many casualties of the recession was the U.S. auto industry, which (arguably) was saved thanks to $25 billion in cash from the Bush Administration in 2008 and another $60 billion from the Obama Administration in 2009.
The Detroit News reports that 51 percent of Americans opposed the bailouts, with more Republicans being against the moves than Democrats. We're guessing far more Michigan residents were in favor of government intervention than the U.S. at large, and the Obama Administration is looking to capitalize on the move with a pro-bailout commercial.
The ad, which can be viewed after the jump, will run in Michigan throughout the weekend. The ad is hitting the airwaves as Michigan voters prepare to vote in the state's Republican primary. Every serious Republican candidate is on the record as opposing the bailout.

Video: Mugen-powered Honda Jazz rally car looks Fit for the purpose

Honda took a Mugen-powered Jazz (better known as the the Fit here in the U.S.), sent it to Italy to be engineered for rallying by JAS of Milan, then flew it to Australia to be prepared for Oz's 2012 rally series. Honda's been competing in the series with Civic Type R racers for the last two years, but this year, it decided to press the Fit into service for G2 class spec.
Up front is a 245-horsepower Mugen powerplant with 142 pound-feet of torque. Honda says this "may well be the fastest Jazz in the world," and it will start challenging the six rounds of this year's championship in March with driver Eli Evans and co-driver Glen Weston.
